The Idaho Medical Cannabis Act will not appear on the November 2026 ballot. We know many Idahoans are disappointed by this outcome, and so are we. Thousands of people shared their support by signing a petition, contributing, telling their stories, encouraging others to get involved, and more. The Natural Medicine Alliance of Idaho was created because we share your passion and belief that patients facing serious illness and chronic pain deserve access to better treatment options and the ability to discuss them with their medical providers.

While the initiative will not appear on the ballot, it is not due to lack of need or support. Throughout this campaign, we heard from Idahoans who shared their stories about cancer, epilepsy, PTSD, chronic pain, and other conditions that affect them or someone they love. Polling found that 83% of likely Idaho voters support legal medical cannabis. Tens of thousands of Idahoans signed petitions because they believed this issue deserved to be heard by voters.

This effort has made it clear just how much Idaho's citizen initiative process matters. It exists so ordinary Idahoans can bring issues directly before their fellow citizens and ask voters to decide questions for themselves. Efforts like HJR 4 that remove citizens’ ability to qualify initiatives for the ballot should concern all Idahoans. Regardless of where someone stands on medical cannabis, voters should be wary of proposals that limit the public's ability to participate directly in the democratic process.
